Academics

Art

Visual Art classes are offered to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

Technology

Computer classes are offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students will gain knowledge on have to create digital presentations. They will also be exposed to coding, game creation, and digital citizenship.

Strategic Reading

A school wide initiative involving small group instruction in Reading Comprehension based on data and students ability levels.

Shsat Prep Course

Based on the NYC DREAM program, this course is designed to prepare 8th grade students for Specialized High School entrance examinations.

Algebra & Living Environment

We provide Algebra 1 and Living Environment courses through our honors programs. Students will have the opportunity to gain High School regents credits in grade 8.

STEM (Science, Technology, Environment, & Math)

Students learn lego parts, build and design a robot. With the lego software students learn program design. Mathematical applications are also utilized such as gear ratios in addition to physics to enhance the performance of their robot. Student progress is assessed through a performance task that encourages students to analyze their program to complete challenges. Some of our new and exciting programs include: drones, spheros & hydroponics lab!

Bridges

Students identify the characteristics that make a bridge unique, investigate the different types of bridges and their functions, and learn about the history of some of the world’s most prominent bridges. Students will also identify the structural parts that make up different types of bridges, and analyze the forces that enable each bridge to support a load. For their final project, students work in teams to develop a sales pitch for the selection of a bridge to ease traffic. The students then construct a scale model of a truss bridge that is cost effective, structurally sound and visually appealing.

Spheros

Spheros use programmable robots that transform the way kids learn, create and invent through coding, science, music, and the arts. It inspires imaginative play-based learning by empowering kids to design and build their own mazes while teaching critical problem-solving and computational thinking skills.

NAO Robotics

NAO is a 58-cm tall humanoid robot. Students learn coding with the choreograph software. Students can program the robot to recognize and respond to visuals, speech and movement. Through this initiative students are able to develop and analyze coding sequence that are used in many of the technological applications they use daily.

Hydroponics Lab

An innovative science lab that uses hydroponic farming technology that offers students the opportunity to grow food, while learning hands-on about nutrition, water resource management, efficient land use, climate change, biodiversity, conservation, contamination, pollution, waste management, and sustainable development.

Drones

Droneology is a fun, online course that prepares drone owners – beginners to advanced – for having fun while being safe and responsible with their flying gizmo. Topics covered include safety, laws and regulations, flight basics, and the many uses of drones! This digital course is optimized for delivery on mobile devices so you can take it on your phone, tablet, or computer anytime, anywhere!
